AleatoricEveryday. The same song on the radio as they got closer to home. Daily subliminals slipped into dreams. Classic crooning slipped into work conversation. Even on another side of the planet. A quick walk for food and they would catch a bit of song from grainy foreign radios at street vendor stalls. And they would have the tune stuck in their heads the rest of the night. In the collection of Rick and Joyce14x17, Pen on Paper

Business as UsualI sneak into your room at night and move all your bookmarks so all your stories seem to skip and to trip over themselves, repeating and wandering lost in their own pages. But Russel J. Walrussel wants to assure you that it’s all going as planned. The darkness consumes us and crawls across our skin. We sit in our ancient cities and light fires in our robots. I can see my reflection but do not feel that I am the truth.Ink and paint on mannequin torso. In the personal collection of C. Vance

Inter-Reality Totem PoleWhen it was first built, it was fueled by curses, hexes, jinxes, and pantomime. It rolled through swamps on spokes of bone, showing up on front lawns and leering into windows. People mumbled dreams of endless cities, sickness, and a terrible business with Bees. We saw our lives projected on shadows, and we felt the cold gaze of too many geometries.Acrylic paint wash, Pen on Canvas22 x 28 inches

Our Most Notorious AttributesShe stood on the shore of the Nile like a passenger waiting for Charon. As the Chancellor of Opposites, it was her duty and privilege to watch over the Self-Mandlebrotting machine. Her music soothed the King of the Octophants, so the flooding would be mild this year. Video of the making of the Complete Mayor Saga.

Mayor Saga- TriptychEndings are difficult. Not everyone is satisfied whether everyone lives, or the robots realize the error of their ways, or if the octopus gets the girl. The Mayor made his story so that it can always continue. The threads all line up again and again. Birth-Life-Death, Life-Death-Birth, or Death-Birth-Life; the same characters, the same lines of dialogue. Infinite replay. Where it ends is up to you. You have to be the one to look away.

Death of the Mayor- Ad Astra Per AsperaThe airlock. Why do they have to make it so complicated? With zombies loose on the space station, packs of dogs attacking the weak and the young in the outer levels, and the giant crabs demanding exact change… Well, let’s just say he had a lot on his mind. Now, even the pirates and cyborgs are worrying about ancient Incan curses since there is no one around to “Stop the Terorr”.10x15 ink on boardPanel three of three in the Mayor Saga Triptych

Life of the Mayor- Lost in the BosphorusWhen she left, he spent hundreds of years sitting under the waves and resisting the mighty currents. Rumors started that he was dead, but others claimed they could hear him murmuring in the Hagia Sofia. Centaurs robbed pilgrims on the roads to their ancestral homes and the USSA took everyone to the moon. We sting the most from self inflicted wounds.10x15 ink on boardPanel two of three in the Mayor Saga Triptych

Birth of the Mayor- Unto Space, a Child is BornWhen Mayor O. Space was born, he seemed destined for greatness. They gave him a planet and he gave them back a solar system. They said it wasn’t enough. He took the solar system and turned it into a galaxy. They didn’t like the color and complained there weren’t enough bathrooms. He took the galaxy and spun it out into an entire universe with pacified apes, Roman ruins and rampaging robots. Finally, once he had given them everything, they were satisfied.
